3 Reasons It’s Totally Fine That You Don’t Have It All Figured Out

When I was younger, I thought by the time I was in my mid-twenties that I would have it all figured out. I would be working in my dream job, my bank account would be overflowing, I would be dating the man of my dreams and I would be living somewhere amazing – Sydney? New York? Paris?

In short – I thought by the time I am in my mid-twenties I would be winning at life, and I would have it all figured out.

As it turns out, none of those things happened.

When I turned 25 I was still figuring it out. (And lets be honest, two years down the track at 27 I’m STILL figuring it out!).

And that’s totally okay. In fact, it’s the whole point.

You see, I've come to believe that we’ll never feel like we have it all figured out – ever.

We’ll always be questioning, wondering, turning down winding paths and taking the long route (in the metaphorical sense – not the lost on a road trip sense).

As a coach I feel a sense of pressure (no doubt only from myself) that I have to have it all figured out. I have to know where I’m headed, what I want and how I’m going to get it.

But I want to admit something right now: I’m still figuring. That. Sh*t. Out.

I don’t know where I’ll be ten years from now. Hell, I don’t even know where I’ll be a year from now!

And I am totally fine with that, here’s why:

1. It makes life interesting

If life were a straight and narrow line, how fun would it be, anyway? So never feel bad for questioning what you want or where you want to be. Don’t settle for what you have just because it’s the comfortable or safe option – if it’s not right for you, NOW is the best time to start to make a change. And what is right for you today, may not serve you tomorrow, so don’t be afraid to keep questioning and keep changing.

2. No one else has it figured out anyway.

It can be all too easy to feel like everyone around you is getting on with their lives and doing ‘adulting’ right. But no matter how perfect their social media accounts are, we are all faced with new challenges, curve-balls and obstacles that make us take stock, go back to the drawing board and ‘figure it all out’ again. And again. And again.

So don’t think that you’re alone in feeling like you haven’t got t all figured out. No one does.

3. It means there is work to be done, so do it.

Feeling like you don’t have it all figured out is a perfect reason to start to get to know the real you – what makes you smile? What upsets you? What fires you up? What do you want to see change in the world?

To be good at life, we first have to be good to ourselves and that starts with discovering the real you.

So girl, if you’re still figuring it all out: Don’t stress, we all are.

Instead of beating yourself up for not having it all figured out, be open to the adventure, be willing to learn, to fall, and to grow. Get out of your comfort zone, don’t settle, and keep going.
